Hey guys! I just finished up my first impressions video on the new palette from Smashbox: the Master Class Palette 2! I was so excited to finally get my hands on it that the second I got it I started swatching and getting ready to record. Here's the video I shot:
Here's a look at what's inside of the palette. You get:
- 28 Eye Shadows
- 4 Cream Eyeliners
- 5 Blushes
- 1 Bronzer
- 2 Soft Lights
One thing that I really liked about this palette is that it is divided into verticle trios so that it's easy to figure out which shadows should go together. I also liked how Smashbox adds character to said trios by actually giving them names, and they are appropriately given names that relate to photography (this is appropriate because Smashbox was actually originally Smashbox Studios a.k.a. a place meant solely for photography!) Down below you'll see pictures of the trios, as well as the blushes, cream liners, and soft lights (and their swatches!)
"Headshot"
"Heliograph"
"Focal Point"
"Cover Shoot"
"Hyper Focal"
"Vignette"
These last 4 shadows aren't a part of any of the trios, but rather are just neutral matte colors, that I believe are meant to go with any of the rest of the shadows.
The shadows in general are VERY light, and as you can see for yourselves, lack pigmentation. Some of the shadows are great on color, and some are barely there. And out of the 28 there are 4 that are very chalky and almost unusable (at least in my opinion.) However, if pigmentation isn't really a huge deal for you, the colors are very lovely, and the selection is very versatile and good for day a day to day basis.
Here's what the cream liners looked like! I have to say, they're not really my favorite. Shockingly, the purple and black somehow managed to look chalky despite their super smooth and soft texture. It was a little strange. However, I must say the bronze color is BEAUTIFUL, the photo really doesn't give the swatch justice.
And of course, we have the blushes and bronzer (center, bottom row.) I think Smashbox did a very good job with the cheek products, however I think they're a little light; I'm not really sure how they'll cater to darker skin tones (aka mine!)
Finally, here are the Smashbox soft lights, which are basically highlighters. They're very pretty, and VERY similar when swatched.
All in all, I like this palette. It's certainly not the best one that I have, but I think it's worth the price. I do wish that the eye shadows were more pigmented, though. That's pretty much the only thing that I could see being a deal breaker here.
Alright guys, that's all for now. Thanks so much for reading, and I hope you found this helpful!
